A fun sci-fi thriller vampire story

Are you looking for a new sci-fi psychological thriller but don’t know where to start?

It can be really hard to find good psychological thriller, that keeps your skin crawling and you thinking. Many of them are poorly written and just mindless gore under the guise of psychological horror.

However, Stolen Blood is the vampire story of a secret society of vampires, all of whom live and work among us amicably. This is almost a common theme type for me, as most readers familiar with my DeSai series can attest. The difference between ‘Stolen Blood’ and other functional vampire works I have written is; These vampires can live the way they do through a pact with the ‘Dark Father’, to whom they offer a regular sacrifice. This keeps them under his control and complacent, who would want to get on the wrong side of the one who provides their way of life.

While I have created several vampires who actively participate in this tale, Mason Stout is one of the main bloodsuckers. Mason is a wise assistant to the head of this secret society. They are the only ones permitted to seek out the will of the Dark Father in any given situation.

Ultimately, this society obtains some ‘bad blood,’ consisting of a genetic mutation. Now that Mason and those in his society sector have consumed this blood, It has reverted them back to the murderous blood-thirsty state they originally possessed. Mason must face the grief-stricken and enraged Sasha Hunter in a blood-induced high.
So why the vengeful Sasha Hunter? Because she is obsessed as well as angry and to her, vigilante justice is the perfect solution. As a vigilante, Sasha is motivated by rage and deep grief for her lost father. Sasha has the intention to rid the world of the murderous beast called the Dark Father to avenge her fallen father.

Stolen Blood is a far-fetched vampire story that is heavy with originality and creativity. While it is a tale about vampires, it is not quite a narrative about good versus evil. It is filled with a lot of grey areas that will leave you wondering about who is the hero and who is the villain of this story. I wanted to put a new skew on the whole vampire idea when I wrote this novel. Anyone familiar with my DeSai novels is already aware that I enjoy creating vampires who live and walk among us, and ‘Stolen Blood’ is another of that sort while still remaining different than other works I’ve completed.

What do you think makes a good if not great psychological thriller?

Something that leaves you thinking about it for hours afterward? Something that leaves your skin lightly crawling and keeps you on the edge of your seat while reading?

For me, it means that it leaves you thinking about it for days, it makes you truly wonder who is in the right or the justifications of actions; but it also has to create an air of unease, uncertainty, and fear one where you won’t be sure what will happen next. That is after all that’s what makes thrillers so great, that you never truly know what will happen next. There is something beautiful about psychological horrors where while you might read many the glory to them is that you can’t pinpoint how it will end. If you enjoy psychological horrors then I believe you would enjoy this novel, it will keep you thinking while your skin crawls.

While Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” published in 1897, solidified the vampire legend in popular culture, the roots of vampire fiction run much deeper, stretching back to the 18th and 19th centuries with tales like “Varney the Vampire” and the chilling Lord Ruthven. These early works established many of the tropes we associate with vampires today, including their thirst for human blood, sensitivity to sunlight, and aristocratic allure. The vampire legend continued to evolve throughout the 20th century, finding new life in films like “Nosferatu” and countless novels and short stories. But what about the 21st century? How does contemporary vampire fiction build upon this rich tradition?

R.W.K. Clark’s “Stolen Blood” offers a fresh and captivating take on vampire lore, blending classic elements with modern anxieties and scientific intrigue. While “Dracula” drew inspiration from Eastern European folklore and the real-life figure of Vlad the Impaler, “Stolen Blood” grounds its vampires in the contemporary world, imagining a secret society of vampires living and working among us. This modern twist allows R WK Clark to explore the complexities of morality, identity, and the challenges of maintaining humanity in the face of monstrous urges.

“Stolen Blood” also delves into the scientific aspects of vampirism, exploring the potential for genetic mutations and the consequences of tampering with the very essence of life. This blend of science and the supernatural creates a unique and compelling narrative that resonates with both classic vampire fans and those seeking a more modern and nuanced take on the genre. By weaving together elements of classic vampire fiction, contemporary anxieties, and scientific intrigue, “Stolen Blood” offers a thrilling and thought-provoking exploration of the vampire legend, proving that even centuries after Varney and Count Dracula first graced the page, there are still fresh and captivating stories to be told about these immortal creatures.
