‘Mindless’ is my newest Psychological thriller since the release of ‘Passing Through’ and one that I am pretty excited about. ‘Mindless’ is a tale geared directly at adults; this book is not for the young mind.
Going back to this genre was based on the response I got from my book ‘Passing Through,’ another one of my best psychological suspense novels which seemed to garner a more extensive fan base and made me realize that perhaps fans wanted me to stick with Psychological thrillers. I was ready for such a change myself.
Now, let’s talk about the psychopath Melvin.
I wrote this crime thriller book with the full intention of disturbing the reader. That was the reason for Melvin Frink’s mental instability being as shaky as it was. This psychopath was walking a fine line in his mind.
Want to know the best part?
Now, let’s turn our attention to his mother, Adele Frink. Adele has been a sick woman from day one, as readers will come to discover. Adele doesn’t see how she is abusive; this woman truly believes she has her son’s best interest at heart. She sees no wrongdoing in any way on her part.
Here’s the deal ‘Mindless’ is for my Psychological thriller fans.
Now, why did I choose to write such a sexually disturbing and violent psycho-thriller novel after so many that were so mild-mannered? Many, many reasons come to mind.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
For one, fans expressed a liking for my novels, ‘Passing Through,’ ‘Brother’s Keeper,’ ‘Retribution‘ and ‘Box Office Butcher’; all five are Psychological thrillers. I felt that it was time to indulge my love for thrillers while satisfying my fan base by giving them what they wanted—one of the reasons why this is one of my best psychological suspense novels.
‘Mindless,’ while much more disturbing in many ways than the others, was just what I think we all needed to bring us the satisfaction of reading a book that kept us turning pages to find out what type of sickening behavior could occur on the next page. I think readers will be surprised, and I hope they enjoy every last page of this suspense thriller.
I also understand that some will not like the book. That’s okay. As individuals, we must be true to what we prefer, Mindless will not be the book for everyone. I wrote it for my Psychological thriller fans. I should warn those who prefer more laid-back plot lines that you should avoid this if sociopaths are not your preference.
But here’s the kicker.
I have to admit that I was ready for something a bit more gritty, and I don’t think that I have it out of my system quite yet. I am longing to write more that causes me and my readers to grind the teeth and wince while allowing the passages to wander through the mind. Deep inside, we carry our anger and resentments, pain, and suppressed memories, but we can never be rid of them. They all have a funny way of resurfacing when we least want them to, and that is what we all need to be afraid of.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
I like to explore the sickness of the mind and where it can take an individual. That is precisely what the serial killer Melvin Frink, with all of his education, should have been petrified of the most, but he was not.
You might be wondering about insanity.
So, I offer you ‘Mindless,’ and I desire that you get from reading this book what I got from writing it: The realization that insanity is just a step away from every one of us. With that in mind, tread lightly, and enjoy the food for thought I am offering to feed you.
Mindless One Of My Best Psychological Suspense Novels Character Profile
Melvin Frink
Melvin is an introvert by his original nature and has difficulty speaking to anyone, especially the opposite sex, outside of the classroom setting. He is approximately 29 years of age and, at the beginning of the book, is working on his chosen medical specialty, neuropsychiatric surgery. Melvin has lived at home and has enjoyed the money his father, Francis, left behind for him and his mother, Adele.
He lives in Baltimore, Maryland, and has no real friends other than those he studies with, and he has never dated nor had a girlfriend to speak of. His mother has always been overprotective of him, to the point of suffocation. Melvin is tall, has mousy brown hair that he wears a bit too long in the back, though it is receding in the front, and wears thick-framed tortoise-shell glasses.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
After his accident, Melvin’s personality changes drastically. He is suddenly not afraid to speak to girls and is almost obsessed with them. Before, he cowered from his mother and obeyed her every command, but now he defies her at times. His intellect has changed to the level that, instead of using it for the benefit of others, he is finding ways to satisfy his secret desires—the perfect character for my best psychological suspense novels.
Adele Frink
Adele Frink, the widowed wife of Francis Frink, is approximately sixty years of age but keeps herself up well, indulging in the finest of clothing and self-care, including facelifts and regular salon appointments. She moved to Baltimore from Boston with her dear son Melvin, even putting him through the best education possible but keeping him under her iron grasp at all times. She never let him have friends or date, insisting that he spend all of his spare time with her. Adele fully intends to control her son until one or both of them die. Another reason why this is one of my best psychological suspense novels.
Dr. Philip Arondale
Since her initial diagnosis in Boston, this psychiatrist has treated Adele and was enticed to turn his back on his Boston practice and move to Baltimore to continue seeing her professionally. But Adele has manipulated Philip throughout his career, either by money or sexual prowess, to continue to get whatever she wants from him, including sex and prescription medications. Though he has other patients, he is committed to her due to her continued funding of his practice and life.
Doris, the Nurse
Doris was the nurse who formed a very close relationship with Melvin, and he looked at her as a mother figure, though she was not aware of his affection.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Officer John Torrey
John Torrey is about fifty years of age and has worked as a campus officer for twenty years. As girls disappear from campus, he and his partner Nick Manning are put in charge of the initial campus investigation. In this mystery thriller, he is the perfect detective for one of my best psychological suspense novels.
Nick Manning
John Torrey’s partner is a quiet but productive member of the team. He is about twenty-seven, has light brown hair, a slight build, and does more thinking than talking.
Lieutenant Cohen
Cohen is a member of the Baltimore Police Department’s Missing Persons Division, and he has been assigned to the case to try and keep the Feds out. While he has an effect that exudes control, he does little more than take notes, drive the cars, and follow Torrey’s lead.
Detective Miller
Miller is a younger man who works in the same division under Cohen. He is another who is a note-taker and a gopher, but now and then pops up with something good to consider as far as the case goes. Miller is a ‘silent partner’ throughout the investigation and not much more than a seat filler.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Sarah Russell ‘Princess’
Sarah is Melvin’s first victim, taken primarily because of her beauty. She is a petite blond with perfect facial features and a very open and friendly personality. She is the one who he considers his favorite.
Jennifer Willis ‘Candy’
Jennifer is Melvin’s second victim, and Melvin names her ‘Candy’ for her auburn hair.
Denise Hoskins ‘Green Eyes’
Denise is the final victim that Melvin is able to capture.

If you’re looking for psychological thriller books that delve into the darkest corners of the human psyche, look no further than R.W.K. Clark’s “Mindless.” This chilling novel explores the twisted mind of Melvin, a surgeon whose obsession with perfection leads him down a path of kidnapping and surgical experimentation on young women. R WK Clark masterfully crafts a suspenseful narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat, while also raising disturbing questions about the nature of obsession, the boundaries of medical ethics, and the fragility of the human mind. “Mindless” is a must-read for fans of psychological thriller books who crave a truly unsettling and thought-provoking experience.
Put this psychological thriller on your best psychological suspense novels of all time list.
‘Brother’s Keeper’ is my first psychological thriller, and it was simultaneously fun and challenging to write. It tells the story of Scott Sharp, a traveler whose train makes a stop at the tiny town of Burdensville.
Here, Scott tries to assist a waitress being harassed by a drunk and gets himself arrested, which results in pulling the stranger into the dark secrets the town holds, and the secrets won’t let him go.
I consider this to be one of my best thrillers of all time. ‘Brother’s Keeper’ is my first suspense thriller release, and it is the first book I have written that I would classify as a psychological thriller or psychological horror. My second novel in my list of psychological thrillers was ‘Box Office Butcher,’ and my third novel would be ‘Passing Through.’ If you like the horrors, try all three of these serial killers.
Writing this novel was fun for a variety of reasons.
It was off the beaten path compared to most books I write. The monster in this book is not a vampire, witch, or zombie; instead, the monster is an unknown psychopath murdering women at night who pass through the town. Developing the character of the serial killer wreaking havoc was a good time; I wanted him to be dull but intelligent; he needed to be needy but in control in ways no one understood. He needed to have deep-seated issues that were in such a terrible knot that even those who might care about him didn’t know how to sort them out.
Here’s the deal.
Scott walks into Burdensville without the slightest idea of what has happened to this town. He is, utterly and completely, an innocent victim. When he first gets to the café and tries to protect the waitress from the town drunk, the sheriff puts him under arrest, which is the first sign that something is off in that town. The whole place is off, and he can’t seem to put his finger on what is happening around him. All Scott knows is that he’s trapped in a jail cell, but it is there that Scott himself will begin to unravel the goings-on in Burdensville for himself.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
It gets better.
Of course, we cannot have the mystery thriller element without romantic suspense, even slight. In the case of Brother’s Keeper, I created a slow but sure relationship between Scott and the waitress he tried to save when he was arrested. In the beginning, she was aloof with him, but soon the two get to know each other. Inevitably, the killer puts her sanity to the test.
But here’s the kicker.
Sheriff Robert Darby keeps the most secrets in this town, as readers will discover. I chose the sheriff for this role because none of what happens in the crime thriller would be possible without his badge’s authority. The beauty of fiction is precisely what I did in the case of Sheriff Darby and his unutterable secrets.
I tried to put a bit of everything in this new fiction book: Old lady hen twins who are the gossipers of the town; Dickie, the café owner, who has excellent fatherly affection for Denise, and who has seen some of the craziness Burdensville truly has to offer. The town is essential to the psychothriller novel, in all of its insanity and desperation. Another reason why I consider this to be one of my best thrillers of all time.
Want to know the best part?
To put things in a nutshell for my readers, there is a history of foul play that I can explain here, but these secrets are vile shameful and have instilled a sense of obligation in Sheriff Darby that he can never silence. It is, quite literally, a massive burden for him, but he carries these things and acts upon them out of the best interest of the townsfolk as a whole, not to mention himself.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Readers may feel like Sheriff Darby is something of a bad guy, but I cannot express enough that the things he does which seem so wrong are committed out of a pure heart, a heart that is trying to make things right in a situation where they will never, ever be right again. He is not the guy to hate here, though it seems that way throughout the pages of this psychological murder mystery, it appears that way.
The reality is Sheriff Darby is as much of a victim as all of those who have been murdered in a blood bath on the outskirts of the town. This also makes it best thrillers of all time.
You might be wondering about the town.
I wanted people to be in Burdensville while they read this. Also, I wanted readers to get a definite feel for the town, Mayberry, without a shower. I did my best to convey the gloom of the constant shadows that seemed to hang over the place, even when the sun shone. That’s more or less what happens in small-town life, and, evil or not, Burdensville is no different.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Add this novel to your Best Thrillers Of All Time list.
Scott is a good man in his heart, coming from a good family. He is the kind of person who believes in the good of man’s heart overall, at least until he gets to Burdensville. Scott is loyal and courageous, which is apparent in his response to Denise being harassed. Scott is a man of ideals who feels his way through a dark spot in his life. Though finding love is far from his mind. He is also intelligent and determined, and he isn’t afraid to stand up and take the wheel in whatever way he can to help. His character adds calm to this one of the best thrillers of all time.
Denise Jensen
This petite strawberry-blonde has cute blue eyes and a slight build. She has never married; Denise has cared for her sister, Diane, since the death of their mother and father. With mountains of responsibilities, she works and supports her sister, who is preparing to attend college.
Denise works at Dickie’s Place, the small town café that serves as the main hangout in Burdensville, her lifelong home. Her boss, Dickie, keeps an eye out for her, being the only father figure in her life. Denise knows something is off in her town, but like all the rest who live there, she keeps the few things she does know far from the ears of strangers, making her seem standoffish to passers-through. She has a big heart and is brilliant as well.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Sheriff Robert Darby
Sheriff Darby is the law in this town, and he is the only one with this responsibility. He is from Burdensville, just like all the rest, and he loves the people and place, though it is difficult to tell until further on in the book. Not only does he feel an obligation to look out for the townsfolk, but he also feels an intense, heavy obligation to keep the secrets that only he and a select few know about.
Darby goes to some terrible lengths to fulfill this obligation at the cost of saving face and keeping promises he has made. He is a gruff, sandy-haired man with something of a potbelly, and he is constantly chewing on a toothpick. What this guy says goes, even if it’s the wrong thing to say. This also makes it one of the best thrillers of all time.
Ronnie Smith
Ronnie is mentally challenged, the result of an injury while in the womb, but he is a severe alcoholic. For the most part, the town knows him as a harmless drunk. They have known him all his life, and while he can be a bit overwhelming and scary, Ronnie is still one of their own.
Dickie
Dickie isn’t the leading player in this book, but his role is significant. He owns Dickie’s Place, the only place to eat and hang out in town. Like most of the rest, Burdensville is his home, and he knows everyone who lives there. He is Denise’s boss, but more than that, he has known her for years, and he has a solid fatherly affection for her, making sure she is safe.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
His employees are like his kids, and he is good to them. Dickie is a man of average height, with thinning gray hair; clean-shaven. He usually wears short-sleeved button-downs and jeans; he is very down-to-earth and trustworthy, at least to those he knows. This is a good man who gets wrapped up in the dark drama of the small-town life at the wrong time, but he benefits Diane.
Diane Jensen
The younger sister of Denise is preparing to graduate, and she will be starting college to study to become a nurse; she is her sister’s pride and joy, and she is also all Denise has left since their mom and dad died. The two are close, and Diane is a good girl who would never disrespect or worry her sister. Dickie keeps an eye on her, too, though the two aren’t as close as he is with Denise. She is a typical, down-home girl next door who lives a good life. The only drawback is that she is oblivious to the history and goings-on in Burdensville.

Brother’s Keeper is a book by author RWK Clark that tells the story of a stranger passing through a small town filled to the brim with secrets and dark murders. R WK Clark is a writer out of New Mexico who has released several works. Who also dabbles in other creative prospects.
This book can easily be classified as one of his best psychological thrillers, and it contains an abundance of twists and surprises that are set to keep you interested until the very end. Set in a small fictional town seemingly in the middle of nowhere, there is no lack of interesting characters, and the world building as well as the fiction writing itself, is crazy enough to keep the story going strong from the beginning to the end.
The main reason why I added this novel to the best psychological thrillers novels list.

During this period of wandering, a train he is riding happens to stop briefly in a town called Burdensville, and he decides to grab a bite to eat at a café in the tiny, odd, town. Unfortunately for Scott, the second he steps off that train, his fate is sealed, and he decided not to leave until this mystery is solved. This scene also makes it one the best psychological thrillers.
It gets better.
Scott learns during his stay that Burdensville is filled with dark secrets, including a bout of rash horrible murders taking place all around the town. Scott begins to untangle some of these secrets, and it seems that the entire town is a victim of some generational evil that has controlled its people for years and it doesn’t take this meddling outsider too kindly.

This is a serious mystery thriller book at its core, with young people who are dying violently and a dark secret that doesnt shy away from killing anyone in its path. There is a serial killer loose, and Scott is sure that the psychotic person lives alongside his victims and their families in Burdensville. Another reason why I added this novel to my best psychological thrillers novels list.

You might be wondering about the characters of this psychological thriller
Other characters in the book include Denise Jensen, waitress and lifelong Burdensville resident who has logn since become the sole caretaker for her younger sister Diane ever since their parents died. Sheriff Robert Darby is a key part of this novel, while enigmatic he is the seemingly crooked law of the land. There are many others too, like Ronnie Smith, the town drunk who takes the blame for acts he never committed and Dickie, the café owner and father figure for Denise, trying his best to protect and take care of her, although it is usually in vain.
Clark also included other colorful characters, like the elderly spinster twins Madeline and Margaret Harris, who are the town gossipers, you’ll be sure if a rumor is spreading around town like a wildfire that these women are to blame; however that also means if you need information on the town and its residents you should be sure to stop by and give these women a chat, however be warned everything comes with a price.

I believe that writers and novelists, as in any profession, change and grow over the timespan that they work and produce. Any of my readers and fans who are familiar with my books and the ‘genres’ they are ‘classified’ under are able to recognize the point I am making.
Authors’ characters get more detailed and personal; descriptions get a bit more intense, as do emotional scenes of any kind. I have also found, for myself, that with each and every fiction book I put out, I seem to get a bit more ‘guts’ about what I am willing to put down on paper.
For instance, I’ll admit it, in the beginning, writing a detailed love scene was something I dreaded, but I do much better now, and I’m getting much more comfortable, with experience, in that particular area.
This, of course, is just one example. I consider this to be one of my best thriller books of all time. ‘Passing Through’ is my latest suspense thriller release, and it is the third book I have written that I would classify as psychological thrillers, or psychological horror.
The first was ‘Brother’s Keeper’, and when I wrote that I thought it was a bit much. The second in my list of psychological thrillers would be the ‘Box Office Butcher‘ another must read. If you like the horrors be sure to try all three of the Best Thriller Books on serial killers .
Passing Through is a psycho-thriller novel that will have you captivated from beginning to end. It tells the story of a woman who is trying to escape her past while being pursued by a madman. Will she make it out alive? With unpredictable twists and turns, this book is sure to keep you entertained. You won’t be able to put it down until you find out what happens next. Purchase Passing Through today on Amazon or Barnes & Noble!
Here’s the deal ‘Passing Through’ is on an entirely different level.
Now, I realize that there will be fans of psychological thrillers out there who will love this book; perhaps it will surprise them, and they will find it will be just what they were waiting for from me. Others, though, are going to despise it.

‘Passing Through’ was very difficult for me to write for a number of reasons, but there were two in particular that took a toll on me. First, I have had close personal experience and interactions in passing with violent criminals, and their minds and ways of thinking are ugly and burdensome; they are not people you want to make regular friends of. To put these things into words and make people understand was, well, exhausting.
I also found myself quite beaten up after writing each and every violent part. I didn’t want the parts to be mild, because the character of Elliot Keller was a horrible, horrible man. It thrilled him to do the things he did to people to the point that the only motivation he had for escaping prison was to have a chance to indulge in his deviant behavior yet once more in his life.
Some of the visuals I got, which are what prompt what I write, made me sick, and more than once, I had to step away and breathe. Another good reason why this is one of my best thriller books of all time.
Passing Through By R WK Clark
Now, let’s talk about the psychopath Keller.
Initially, I wrote his character with little to no explanation as to why he was the serial killer that he was. Did his mother not love him enough? Could he have suffer abuse as a child? Did he see something he never could get past? It didn’t matter at first; to me, he was just a bad man, an animal, a violent psychopath. Many murderers or serial killers never suffer wrong at the hands of another, yet they choose to harm others over and over, for no other reason that they like it and its fun.
I changed this. The reasons I began to explain a bit about what made Elliot what he was are simple: I had to show readers the ripple effect, that can literally last for decades when this type of violence is bestowed by one on another. What happened to Keller, Keller did to others, and it would not stop there… it would never stop.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓–
–↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
I didn’t go into his past to provoke pity or compassion. He is nothing more than a rabid animal, and his actions clearly demonstrate that. With that being said, by the end of the new book, you will understand what I mean, and you will still hate him all the more.
You might be wondering about the town.
Thompson Trails, Virginia is yet another fictional town full of ignorant, innocent unawares that have no idea what is about to hit them. I love to develop these little burgs, and I enjoy creating the people who live blissfully within their boundaries. I grow to love many of the characters, no matter how brief their appearances; as readers know, authors kill people off, no matter their age or how good of a person they are.
This happens a lot in Thompson Trails, and I grieved each death. But in reality, killers don’t flip coins, and they don’t pick and choose. Bad things happen, and they always seem to happen to good people. If they happened only to people like Keller, well, that would be a good thing to happen, now wouldn’t it?
Want to know the best part?
Finally, I would like to touch base briefly on Rick and Donna Welk, the owners of the cabin resort, but mostly I want to focus on Donna. Donna and Rick have suffered the loss of a pregnancy, which spurred them to move and buy the cabins. On the outside, Donna is soft, kind, generous, a good wife, and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
She is hurting that she cannot have a child, and she is simply trying to build a new, happy life around this reality. I believe that readers are going to be surprised by the fiber this little woman is made of, and I think they will be furious at the outcome Keller causes her and the man she loves.
But here’s the kicker.
For those of you who are lovers of psychological thrillers, well, here you go. I hope you enjoy it and add it to your best thriller books of all time list. I also hope it makes you as sick as it makes me, because it is that horror and sickness that makes us face the harsh realities of life and keeps us on our toes.

Well, I didn’t write this and then roll it in sugar because it isn’t candy; it is a jagged little pill that will slice your throat straight open if you swallow too fast, or without water. And believe me, when I say, it is not for children. Best to give fair warning; I wrote this in a manner that it would leave some kind of mark. Hopefully, the mark is a good one. So, sit down with the lights on and enjoy the terror that is Elliot Keller in ‘Passing Through’.
Elliot Keller, AKA Elias Derringer ‘serial killer’
Elliot Keller is pretty much the main horror character of this psychothriller. He is in his mid-thirties, with long, scraggly black hair that seems constantly uncombed and a bit greasy. Sporting a black goatee most of the time to enhance his menacing appearance. He is slender and tall, with piercing dark brown eyes that are almost black. Elliot has lived a life of crime, though only a handful are told in these pages. He is a rapist, a sexual sadist, and though his preferred raped victims are women, he looks especially for a male victim to include in his ‘fun and games.’
For five years in prison, the psychopath has been patiently scheming his escape, and now the time has come. He is highly intelligent and knows how to ‘be where he is at’, meaning, if he is in a situation he cannot control, such as prison, he will act as expected as a means of maintaining control. In addition, he can bluff anyone, and he does it well.
He is heartless, soulless, and has absolutely no conscience to speak of. The only reason he wants to escape is to have a bit of fun once again. He escaped the death penalty on a trumped-up technicality, which shows the level of his intellect and depravity. The perfect psycho for one of my best thriller books of all time.

Best Thriller Books: Dive into Heart-Pounding Suspense!
Donna Welk
This small, plump blonde is about as cute and good-natured as female horror characters come, with a heart of pure gold and an attitude to match. Donna and her husband Rick moved to Virginia after losing a pregnancy and being told she would never have children. In an effort to move on anew, they bought and renovated the cabin resorts on the Appalachian Trailhead in Virginia.
Donna is too innocent and trusting, and her first meeting with Keller shows this. The pain she carries around over her loss has made her tougher than even she knows. While she is a wonderful woman and wife, her experience with this man will prove to be her complete undoing.
Rick Welk
Donna’s husband is of medium height and weight, with short brown hair and hazel eyes. This horror character is from a bigger city, which is never mentioned, but he lacks the easy trust in people that his wife and the other townsfolk have. If his gut senses something is off, he follows it. He feels that he is Donna’s protector and the things that Keller puts him through tear his manhood and ego apart. Though Keller never really puts his actual life in danger, he steals it from him completely.
Sheriff Bob Brown
This rotund, balding man is around sixty, and he has sheriffed the town he loves for more than thirty years. Those who live there are like his children, and he is close to everyone. This horror character’s pride is his wife Rosie, and he beams at the sound of her name. Sheriff Brown is another who is way too trusting, even for a cop, and he has never met the likes of Keller. With no experience, he winds up learning first-hand what the meaning of the word ‘maniac’ really is.

Captain Russell Johnson
Part of the Virginia State Patrol, Johnson is the cop who contacts Rush about Keller the psychopath. He thinks they have time to get the convict because he is in a cell, but an emergency nine-one-one over the computer from Thompson Trails is cut off, and there is no power or phone service. Now, he and another cop, along with backup, race against time and the weather to get to the town and stop the horror that is already well underway.

Detective Jackson Fowler
This man is a state detective who becomes involved with not much of a real part, but without him, the cops would never get to Thompson Trails.
Rose Brown
Sweet and silver-haired Rosie is a life-long resident of the town, and she is considered the ‘mother’ of all. Her part is simple, as female horror characters go; yet sweet, and she is necessary to the emotional aspect of the novel.

On of my best horror books, Box Office Butcher is a murder mystery psychological thriller novel about a serial killer (a copycat killer). Dubbed the ‘Box Office Butcher’ by the press, the killer is committing a couple of killings every weekend. This results in Detective Kevin Harmes, of the Los Angeles Police Department, scrambling from here to there and back again to try and keep up.
Fortunately, this seasoned cop has some pretty spot-on suspicions of his own. Regardless of this fact, ‘The Butcher’ manages to keep him on his toes, and miserably so, with the sick game he is playing. I consider this to be one of my best horror books of all time. ‘Box Office Butcher’ is my second suspense thriller release, and it is the second book I have written that I would classify as a psychological thrillers, or psychological horror. My first novel was ‘Brother’s Keeper’ and my third novel in my list of psychological thrillers would be ‘Passing Through’ another must read. If you like the horrors be sure to try all three serial killers.
Here’s the deal it is important to understand that the serial killer has a vendetta.
For this psychopath, these murders are rooted in a history of abuse and rage, and he feels the compelling need to take care of the issue, which he has carried around with him his entire life. It is more than simply killing because he’s a sicko, or because it’s fun, though these are true as well. His actions are essentially a way to make right a past that has, unbeknownst to him, destroyed him from the inside out.
Keep in mind that none of the ‘copycat’ killings are identical to the one from the film which they are meant to emulate. The Butcher doesn’t have the kind of power it would take to make his victims cooperate with a scripted film and still enjoy the spontaneity and horror he is set on sparking and enjoying. Parallel to that, he is a careful planner, spending both time and money to get the real-life murders as close to the ones on film as he possibly can, and he comes terrifyingly close each time. Another reason why I add this book to my best horror books of all time list.

Now, let’s talk about the psychopath.
The Butcher is a very sick man, and it was important to drive this home through a variety of methods. I also added extra elements, as an added bonus pointing to his psychosis. A trait I like to add to my psychological thrillers, I believe it helps build up the readers hatred towards the psychopath.
The hardest part of this psychothriller novel, for me, was keeping the real serial killers identity from being given away during the investigation. It was difficult to give some hints here and there while still shining the spotlight on another, as a distraction. There was a fine line here that couldn’t be crossed, at least, not immediately, and it was like a balancing act to walk that line. Another difficulty was keeping each murder original and unique to itself. I didn’t want the repetition found in most suspense thriller mysterious stories, such as the killer simply chasing and slashing each victim in the same manner.
You might be wondering about the detective.
Why is Kevin Harmes so obsessed? As an experienced detective, the fact that a criminal like The Butcher knows that Harmes will buy his bluff and veer off in another direction is bothersome, to say the least. He almost takes this as an assault on his policing ability. Sure, people are dying, but for Harmes, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The psychopath is also basically making fun of the cops, running them around from city to city in confusion, like small children trying to catch a balloon filled with helium, but is always out of reach. As can be expected, as the crime thriller goes on, Harmes finds little tidbits here and there which begin to clear the fog covering The Butcher’s identity. Everything begins to make sense about the serial killer. Box Office Butcher is packed full of mystery to make it the best horror books of all time.

But here’s the kicker.
Box Office Butcher, with all difficulties aside, was a fun novel to write. The psychological thriller genre which it falls under afforded me much freedom; I just had to sort my way through the murder mystery aspect, what was believable and what would appear to be smoke and mirrors to the reader. I had to reconcile the two to each other without giving away The Butcher’s identity too quickly, and hopefully, I accomplished this properly.
Besides that, I also had a lot of fun with The Butcher’s past; though it was horrid, and the abuse the guy went through are enough to cause anyone to almost understand how someone could go to the kinds of extremes that this serial killer did. I hope you enjoy one of my best fiction books. Get a copy of Box Office Butcher now.
Detective Ken Harmes is a seasoned veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department. In his years on the force, he has developed a reputation as a man who will throw himself into his work full tilt, as well as being among the best at criminal profiling- capable of delving deep into a subject’s psyche with a combination of research, insight, and good old fashioned gumshoe leg work.

Best Horror Books: Where Shadows Whisper and Terror Reigns!
Kevin Harmes is the cop who happens to have the pleasure of the ‘Box Office Butcher‘ case landing directly in his lap. The single man has nothing to do but work, and he has no problem dedicating the time and energy needed to chase serial killers. He is relentless in his pursuit, and he is willing to take some pretty dangerous risks to stop the guy. As his investigation progresses, Harmes begins to put together who the suspect probably is, and as he digs into the man’s past, he begins to clearly see how his upbringing brought him to the murderous point he is at today.
Kevin Harmes is the kind of man who is constantly thinking, and he takes it personally when a psychopath such as this toys with him. These particular strategic moves are likely the very things that help to catch the man in the end, because all they do is spurn Harmes on in determination. An excellent detective for one of my best horror books of all time.

Joe Carter
Another LAPD detective, Carter is Harmes’ partner. He is not as verbal or as intelligent as Harmes, keeping his own neck at a fairly safe distance from the chopping block by limiting his own dedication to catching the Butcher. He is willing, however, to accompany Harmes from city to city during the scattered pursuit, and every now and then, he comes up with a valuable point, out of the blue, that is pertinent to the case. Otherwise, Carter is mostly a character that exists to give Harmes someone to think out loud to, bouncing ideas off him as they go.

Donovan Cannon ‘psychopath’
Donovan Cannon is the serial killer though he changed his name when he was much younger. Because of this, we have no idea which of the suspects he may be. A product of rape, Cannon faced abused his entire life and put through a psychologically painful living hell. This is something the psychopath has been planning for a long time. He has deep traumas, even to the point of feeling good by violence. To him this is natural, and he doesn’t even think about it. It all seems innocent enough in his mind, especially when we compare to what he has gone through in his life. The best psycho for one of my best horror books of all time.

The director of the movie ‘Smash Hit’ is a snob who is at the top of the ranks at Milestone Pictures. He is not only a producer and director, he runs the studio that is his namesake. But he is greatly impressed by the fact that the murders are sending his picture through the roof, making it his highest-grossing movie ever. Because of this, he is less than willing to eagerly assist police. Regardless of his apparent help, March really couldn’t care less, and as far as he is concerned, The Butcher will only make him more money if he completes his murder list.
