Clark, the acclaimed author known for his unique twists on genre fiction, today announced the release of his latest novel, “Dead On The Water.” Available now, this heart-pounding sci-fi horror thriller plunges readers into a terrifying zombie apocalypse aboard an isolated luxury cruise ship, where the undead are cunning, organized, and led by a shocking mastermind.

“Dead On The Water” shatters conventional zombie lore, beginning with a seemingly innocent dog bite during a shore excursion in Belize. What follows is a horrifying plague that rapidly transforms passengers and crew of the opulent Fantasy Line into flesh-eating monsters. But this is no typical outbreak; these zombies retain their intelligence, led by the ship’s own captain, who orchestrates a chilling plan to reach land and unleash a global pandemic.
Simultaneously, a desperate race against time unfolds back in Belize, where a scientific assistant and a CDC team battle to contain the virus at its source. Trapped between two escalating horrors, a small band of survivors on the ship must outwit the intelligent undead and escape before their floating prison becomes the catalyst for humanity’s end.
“With ‘Dead On The Water,’ I wanted to explore a different kind of zombie threat—one that thinks, plans, and leads,” says R.W.K. Clark. “The confined setting of a cruise ship amplifies the terror, creating a relentless, non-stop thrill ride where hope is scarce, and the reality is grim. It’s a story designed to keep readers guessing until the very last page.”

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Most people know R.W.K Clark as a versatile author capable of writing about a wide range of subjects that are just on the fringe of what most people think of as reality, as well as a multitude of psychological horrors that keep people on the edge of their seats scared and thrilled to read what happens next. Perhaps that is the very thing that is so appealing about these books, as the author has developed quite a following of devoted fans who can’t wait for each new book to be released.
‘Brother’s Keeper’ is my first psychological thriller, and it was simultaneously fun and challenging to write. It tells the story of Scott Sharp, a traveler whose train makes a stop at the tiny town of Burdensville.
Here, Scott tries to assist a waitress being harassed by a drunk and gets himself arrested, which results in pulling the stranger into the dark secrets the town holds, and the secrets won’t let him go.
I consider this to be one of my best thrillers of all time. ‘Brother’s Keeper’ is my first suspense thriller release, and it is the first book I have written that I would classify as a psychological thriller or psychological horror. My second novel in my list of psychological thrillers was ‘Box Office Butcher,’ and my third novel would be ‘Passing Through.’ If you like the horrors, try all three of these serial killers.
Writing this novel was fun for a variety of reasons.
It was off the beaten path compared to most books I write. The monster in this book is not a vampire, witch, or zombie; instead, the monster is an unknown psychopath murdering women at night who pass through the town. Developing the character of the serial killer wreaking havoc was a good time; I wanted him to be dull but intelligent; he needed to be needy but in control in ways no one understood. He needed to have deep-seated issues that were in such a terrible knot that even those who might care about him didn’t know how to sort them out.
Here’s the deal.
Scott walks into Burdensville without the slightest idea of what has happened to this town. He is, utterly and completely, an innocent victim. When he first gets to the café and tries to protect the waitress from the town drunk, the sheriff puts him under arrest, which is the first sign that something is off in that town. The whole place is off, and he can’t seem to put his finger on what is happening around him. All Scott knows is that he’s trapped in a jail cell, but it is there that Scott himself will begin to unravel the goings-on in Burdensville for himself.

It gets better.
Of course, we cannot have the mystery thriller element without romantic suspense, even slight. In the case of Brother’s Keeper, I created a slow but sure relationship between Scott and the waitress he tried to save when he was arrested. In the beginning, she was aloof with him, but soon the two get to know each other. Inevitably, the killer puts her sanity to the test.
But here’s the kicker.
Sheriff Robert Darby keeps the most secrets in this town, as readers will discover. I chose the sheriff for this role because none of what happens in the crime thriller would be possible without his badge’s authority. The beauty of fiction is precisely what I did in the case of Sheriff Darby and his unutterable secrets.
I tried to put a bit of everything in this new fiction book: Old lady hen twins who are the gossipers of the town; Dickie, the café owner, who has excellent fatherly affection for Denise, and who has seen some of the craziness Burdensville truly has to offer. The town is essential to the psychothriller novel, in all of its insanity and desperation. Another reason why I consider this to be one of my best thrillers of all time.
Want to know the best part?
To put things in a nutshell for my readers, there is a history of foul play that I can explain here, but these secrets are vile shameful and have instilled a sense of obligation in Sheriff Darby that he can never silence. It is, quite literally, a massive burden for him, but he carries these things and acts upon them out of the best interest of the townsfolk as a whole, not to mention himself.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Readers may feel like Sheriff Darby is something of a bad guy, but I cannot express enough that the things he does which seem so wrong are committed out of a pure heart, a heart that is trying to make things right in a situation where they will never, ever be right again. He is not the guy to hate here, though it seems that way throughout the pages of this psychological murder mystery, it appears that way.
The reality is Sheriff Darby is as much of a victim as all of those who have been murdered in a blood bath on the outskirts of the town. This also makes it best thrillers of all time.
You might be wondering about the town.
I wanted people to be in Burdensville while they read this. Also, I wanted readers to get a definite feel for the town, Mayberry, without a shower. I did my best to convey the gloom of the constant shadows that seemed to hang over the place, even when the sun shone. That’s more or less what happens in small-town life, and, evil or not, Burdensville is no different.

Scott is a good man in his heart, coming from a good family. He is the kind of person who believes in the good of man’s heart overall, at least until he gets to Burdensville. Scott is loyal and courageous, which is apparent in his response to Denise being harassed. Scott is a man of ideals who feels his way through a dark spot in his life. Though finding love is far from his mind. He is also intelligent and determined, and he isn’t afraid to stand up and take the wheel in whatever way he can to help. His character adds calm to this one of the best thrillers of all time.
Denise Jensen
This petite strawberry-blonde has cute blue eyes and a slight build. She has never married; Denise has cared for her sister, Diane, since the death of their mother and father. With mountains of responsibilities, she works and supports her sister, who is preparing to attend college.
Denise works at Dickie’s Place, the small town café that serves as the main hangout in Burdensville, her lifelong home. Her boss, Dickie, keeps an eye out for her, being the only father figure in her life. Denise knows something is off in her town, but like all the rest who live there, she keeps the few things she does know far from the ears of strangers, making her seem standoffish to passers-through. She has a big heart and is brilliant as well.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Sheriff Robert Darby
Sheriff Darby is the law in this town, and he is the only one with this responsibility. He is from Burdensville, just like all the rest, and he loves the people and place, though it is difficult to tell until further on in the book. Not only does he feel an obligation to look out for the townsfolk, but he also feels an intense, heavy obligation to keep the secrets that only he and a select few know about.
Darby goes to some terrible lengths to fulfill this obligation at the cost of saving face and keeping promises he has made. He is a gruff, sandy-haired man with something of a potbelly, and he is constantly chewing on a toothpick. What this guy says goes, even if it’s the wrong thing to say. This also makes it one of the best thrillers of all time.
Ronnie Smith
Ronnie is mentally challenged, the result of an injury while in the womb, but he is a severe alcoholic. For the most part, the town knows him as a harmless drunk. They have known him all his life, and while he can be a bit overwhelming and scary, Ronnie is still one of their own.
Dickie
Dickie isn’t the leading player in this book, but his role is significant. He owns Dickie’s Place, the only place to eat and hang out in town. Like most of the rest, Burdensville is his home, and he knows everyone who lives there. He is Denise’s boss, but more than that, he has known her for years, and he has a solid fatherly affection for her, making sure she is safe.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
His employees are like his kids, and he is good to them. Dickie is a man of average height, with thinning gray hair; clean-shaven. He usually wears short-sleeved button-downs and jeans; he is very down-to-earth and trustworthy, at least to those he knows. This is a good man who gets wrapped up in the dark drama of the small-town life at the wrong time, but he benefits Diane.
Diane Jensen
The younger sister of Denise is preparing to graduate, and she will be starting college to study to become a nurse; she is her sister’s pride and joy, and she is also all Denise has left since their mom and dad died. The two are close, and Diane is a good girl who would never disrespect or worry her sister. Dickie keeps an eye on her, too, though the two aren’t as close as he is with Denise. She is a typical, down-home girl next door who lives a good life. The only drawback is that she is oblivious to the history and goings-on in Burdensville.

Brother’s Keeper is a book by author RWK Clark that tells the story of a stranger passing through a small town filled to the brim with secrets and dark murders. R WK Clark is a writer out of New Mexico who has released several works. Who also dabbles in other creative prospects.
This book can easily be classified as one of his best psychological thrillers, and it contains an abundance of twists and surprises that are set to keep you interested until the very end. Set in a small fictional town seemingly in the middle of nowhere, there is no lack of interesting characters, and the world building as well as the fiction writing itself, is crazy enough to keep the story going strong from the beginning to the end.
The main reason why I added this novel to the best psychological thrillers novels list.

During this period of wandering, a train he is riding happens to stop briefly in a town called Burdensville, and he decides to grab a bite to eat at a café in the tiny, odd, town. Unfortunately for Scott, the second he steps off that train, his fate is sealed, and he decided not to leave until this mystery is solved. This scene also makes it one the best psychological thrillers.
It gets better.
Scott learns during his stay that Burdensville is filled with dark secrets, including a bout of rash horrible murders taking place all around the town. Scott begins to untangle some of these secrets, and it seems that the entire town is a victim of some generational evil that has controlled its people for years and it doesn’t take this meddling outsider too kindly.

This is a serious mystery thriller book at its core, with young people who are dying violently and a dark secret that doesnt shy away from killing anyone in its path. There is a serial killer loose, and Scott is sure that the psychotic person lives alongside his victims and their families in Burdensville. Another reason why I added this novel to my best psychological thrillers novels list.

You might be wondering about the characters of this psychological thriller
Other characters in the book include Denise Jensen, waitress and lifelong Burdensville resident who has logn since become the sole caretaker for her younger sister Diane ever since their parents died. Sheriff Robert Darby is a key part of this novel, while enigmatic he is the seemingly crooked law of the land. There are many others too, like Ronnie Smith, the town drunk who takes the blame for acts he never committed and Dickie, the café owner and father figure for Denise, trying his best to protect and take care of her, although it is usually in vain.
Clark also included other colorful characters, like the elderly spinster twins Madeline and Margaret Harris, who are the town gossipers, you’ll be sure if a rumor is spreading around town like a wildfire that these women are to blame; however that also means if you need information on the town and its residents you should be sure to stop by and give these women a chat, however be warned everything comes with a price.

I wrote ‘Permanent Ink’ with mostly one message to convey: The price of greed can be astronomical, and most often, it is horribly destructive.
This is the story of a stationers’ company. The company is on the brink of bankruptcy. But they have an ace in the hole: Knowing that the kids will love it. The executives at Aspen have a secret: Basically making this novel a fantastic addition to my sci-fi thriller books.
Best Supernatural Books: Unleash the Magic Within!
Here’s the deal.
In an effort to show how widespread the destruction is, I scattered around the storyline of this supernatural book a bit. One particular incident takes place in a hospital in Thornton, Colorado. The viral outbreak is taking place in the suburbs. The local government is trying to figure things out, and has even called in the CDC.
Let’s look at the outbreak at the hospital. Before anyone even understands what is taking place, the zombie epidemic has spread like wildfire. Both patients and employees of the health care center are forced to fight for their lives. A pair of physicians are beginning to figure things out, slowly. But will they solve the problem before it’s too late? This also makes it one of the best supernatural books.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
This is crazy.
The hospital scenes are fast-paced; it is chaos there, and the panic the characters are feeling should be tangible. I did the best I could to convey this, without giving too much hope to the spreading epidemic. Frankly, it is because I felt the plague situation in Thornton was fairly close to being hopeless.

What’s the bottom line?
‘Permanent Ink’ is a zombie story, plain and simple, filled with the flesh-eating monsters that are all the rage at the current time. It is meant to gross readers out, to a certain extent, but mostly, with all of the chaotic scenes aside, I wanted to really convey a message. Corporate greed is the catalyst behind this horrible zombie outbreak, wreaking havoc on unsuspecting consumers who have been blindsided by their timely marketing tactics.
The worst part is, Aspen Stationers’ is more than suspicious of the potential for damage; they know full well what it can do, and they just don’t care. This type of manipulation takes place every day in our world, with results just as destructive, only slower and less obvious. This truth is really what is behind the message in this book.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
But here’s the kicker.
Of course, things have to be cleared up, and solutions must be found so life can go on. But as I mentioned earlier, I neither saw nor felt any positive resolution to this particular zombie writing, and as a writer, I had to struggle to make a way for the sun to rise on these towns again, with hope. I firmly believe that, if this were a true story, there would be no one left to write about it. The world would be taken out systematically by the undead pandemic. The one that Aspen Stationers’ created when they released their product to the public.
Want to know the best part of this best supernatural book?
With all that being said, ‘Permanent Ink’ is, in many ways, just another zombie yarn. It tells the story of something horrible getting into the wrong hands. Also, it breaks down the possibilities of what could really happen if these things took place.
Having done the best possible job cleaning up the mess, it is my hope that readers are able to enjoy this fiction book for what it truly is: A work of fiction that provides yet another take on zombies and how they might come to be walking, and terrorizing, among us. It is meant for entertainment. But I think the moral behind this made-up novel makes it possible to consider other possibilities. Hopefully, it causes readers to think about the items they are willingly choosing to consume.

Permanent Ink Character Profile
Randy Carstens
Randy is a thirty-something lead project scientist for Aspen Stationers’, and one of the main developers. While his research and testing have shown that the product is not at all safe for public release, the heads of the company insist it is. Randy is a family man who loves his kids and his wife; he has solid moral fiber, and he is willing to sacrifice his own comfort to do the right thing, no matter what the cost. Another reason why this is one of my best supernatural books.
Roger McGinley
Roger is the CEO of Aspen, and he is determined to hit the shelves in time for school kids to get it, regardless of its danger. While his appearance in the novel is brief, it is vital. His character is a prime reflection of what is wrong with corporate business today.
Captain Eli Hertz
Head of the Aspen police force, Captain Hertz is an upstanding officer with great concern for the infectious situation at hand. He isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty in the process of trying to stop it. Hertz is a very logical, down-to-earth man who understands the depth of what is taking place, and he is horrified that it has been allowed to go so far.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Megan Casperson
The older sister of Melanie seems to know deep inside that the new school supply has something to do with the chaos breaking loose, though she is scared to death. Megan is a strong girl with brains, and hopefully it will keep her alive. This is another reason why I like this supernatural book.
Dr. Kyle Hilliard
Dr. Hilliard is a handsome physician in his late thirties. He, together with the beautiful pediatrician Diana Moss, try to figure out what is going on and exactly what can be done to stop the zombie virus. Dr. Hilliard is not married, nor does he have children. However, he is a very good doctor who cares for each of his patients. He is stunned beyond belief at what is taking place, and he finds that pulling together is the only solution to such a horrid problem.
Harold Reese
Harold is a janitor for Suburban Medical Center. He is also the head of the maintenance department as a whole. He is a very likeable man with a down-to-earth personality. Best of all, he is not afraid to do what he has to do. It is easy to say that Harold would be a shoe-in to keep around if you are in a group of people who are trying to survive a zombie attack. Harold is a fighter; whether he lives or dies, he is going to go down fighting to the bitter end.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Dr. Diana Moss
Dr. Moss knows her patients. Her intelligence and logic, along with her motherly instincts, make her one of the strongest and most caring of the group, an invaluable asset to those trying to survive the crisis at Suburban until authorities can figure out a way to stop the madness that is going on in the facility.

Permanent Ink by R.W.K. Clark is the story of a stationery company who has stumbled upon a beautiful new product. Being in dire financial straits, the company pushes to release the item before the new school year begins. But Aspen Stationers’, has a secret: In the lab. So Aspen adds a weak, shifty disclaimer to the packaging and puts it on the shelves.
The result of their corporate greed is a horrible viral outbreak of murderous zombies, and the condition is spreading like wildfire. Be sure to put this novel on your list of horror stories to read.
Here’s the deal.
While the zombie outbreak is spurned by the infectious product, the story actually takes place in several different locations. Because of the courage of scientist Randy Carstens, hopefully and with any luck proper steps can be taken to stop the ravaging infection in its path. Let’s take a look at the company, and the bigwigs at Aspen, they are more concerned with pulling themselves out of ruin than being safe. This adds a bit of a crime thriller aspect to the novel.

But Aspen isn’t the only area affected; the school supply has gone on sale in countless cities in the country, including Denver and its suburbs. The chance of a widespread pandemic is now imminent. There is no option but to attack and kill the zombies, which are growing in number by the second. The main reason I put this novel on my list of horror stories to read.

What’s the bottom line?
So, aside from this being a zombie apocalypse offering that is very different to others zombie survival novels, ‘Permanent Ink’ really does have an impactful moral message: What is a financial success really worth? What price should anyone really be willing to pay for it?
In this book, the ultimate price is paid, and no one ever really enjoys the financial outcome due to the destruction it has caused. This point was enough to motivate me to compare the fiction to reality; how much far has corporate America gone to ensure their profit? How much has the public suffered for their governments greed? How much of what is touted as safe and fun is truly poisonous or detrimental to us, the consumers? Is this really a problem, or is ‘Permanent Ink’ just a pipe dream idea tossed about by a writer of horror-fiction? That’s why it is one of the popular horror stories to read.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
This is crazy.
I would have to say that, if we are being honest, this type of thing is constantly happening in the real world. Perhaps it doesn’t leave us as flesh-eating undead, but there are those who are visiting cancer doctors after years of consuming unhealthy products sold with ‘safe’ labels. It is the same with our medicines, beverages, and even the food we all eat. This isn’t considered one of the short stories, but a good book that will make you think about these things, if you are able to see beyond the fiction and focus on the truth.

I believe that writers and novelists, as in any profession, change and grow over the timespan that they work and produce. Any of my readers and fans who are familiar with my books and the ‘genres’ they are ‘classified’ under are able to recognize the point I am making.
Authors’ characters get more detailed and personal; descriptions get a bit more intense, as do emotional scenes of any kind. I have also found, for myself, that with each and every fiction book I put out, I seem to get a bit more ‘guts’ about what I am willing to put down on paper.
For instance, I’ll admit it, in the beginning, writing a detailed love scene was something I dreaded, but I do much better now, and I’m getting much more comfortable, with experience, in that particular area.
This, of course, is just one example. I consider this to be one of my best thriller books of all time. ‘Passing Through’ is my latest suspense thriller release, and it is the third book I have written that I would classify as psychological thrillers, or psychological horror.
The first was ‘Brother’s Keeper’, and when I wrote that I thought it was a bit much. The second in my list of psychological thrillers would be the ‘Box Office Butcher‘ another must read. If you like the horrors be sure to try all three of the Best Thriller Books on serial killers .
Passing Through is a psycho-thriller novel that will have you captivated from beginning to end. It tells the story of a woman who is trying to escape her past while being pursued by a madman. Will she make it out alive? With unpredictable twists and turns, this book is sure to keep you entertained. You won’t be able to put it down until you find out what happens next. Purchase Passing Through today on Amazon or Barnes & Noble!
Here’s the deal ‘Passing Through’ is on an entirely different level.
Now, I realize that there will be fans of psychological thrillers out there who will love this book; perhaps it will surprise them, and they will find it will be just what they were waiting for from me. Others, though, are going to despise it.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
‘Passing Through’ was very difficult for me to write for a number of reasons, but there were two in particular that took a toll on me. First, I have had close personal experience and interactions in passing with violent criminals, and their minds and ways of thinking are ugly and burdensome; they are not people you want to make regular friends of. To put these things into words and make people understand was, well, exhausting.
I also found myself quite beaten up after writing each and every violent part. I didn’t want the parts to be mild, because the character of Elliot Keller was a horrible, horrible man. It thrilled him to do the things he did to people to the point that the only motivation he had for escaping prison was to have a chance to indulge in his deviant behavior yet once more in his life.
Some of the visuals I got, which are what prompt what I write, made me sick, and more than once, I had to step away and breathe. Another good reason why this is one of my best thriller books of all time.
Passing Through By R WK Clark
Now, let’s talk about the psychopath Keller.
Initially, I wrote his character with little to no explanation as to why he was the serial killer that he was. Did his mother not love him enough? Could he have suffer abuse as a child? Did he see something he never could get past? It didn’t matter at first; to me, he was just a bad man, an animal, a violent psychopath. Many murderers or serial killers never suffer wrong at the hands of another, yet they choose to harm others over and over, for no other reason that they like it and its fun.
I changed this. The reasons I began to explain a bit about what made Elliot what he was are simple: I had to show readers the ripple effect, that can literally last for decades when this type of violence is bestowed by one on another. What happened to Keller, Keller did to others, and it would not stop there… it would never stop.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
I didn’t go into his past to provoke pity or compassion. He is nothing more than a rabid animal, and his actions clearly demonstrate that. With that being said, by the end of the new book, you will understand what I mean, and you will still hate him all the more.
You might be wondering about the town.
Thompson Trails, Virginia is yet another fictional town full of ignorant, innocent unawares that have no idea what is about to hit them. I love to develop these little burgs, and I enjoy creating the people who live blissfully within their boundaries. I grow to love many of the characters, no matter how brief their appearances; as readers know, authors kill people off, no matter their age or how good of a person they are.
This happens a lot in Thompson Trails, and I grieved each death. But in reality, killers don’t flip coins, and they don’t pick and choose. Bad things happen, and they always seem to happen to good people. If they happened only to people like Keller, well, that would be a good thing to happen, now wouldn’t it?
Want to know the best part?
Finally, I would like to touch base briefly on Rick and Donna Welk, the owners of the cabin resort, but mostly I want to focus on Donna. Donna and Rick have suffered the loss of a pregnancy, which spurred them to move and buy the cabins. On the outside, Donna is soft, kind, generous, a good wife, and wouldn’t hurt a fly.
She is hurting that she cannot have a child, and she is simply trying to build a new, happy life around this reality. I believe that readers are going to be surprised by the fiber this little woman is made of, and I think they will be furious at the outcome Keller causes her and the man she loves.
But here’s the kicker.
For those of you who are lovers of psychological thrillers, well, here you go. I hope you enjoy it and add it to your best thriller books of all time list. I also hope it makes you as sick as it makes me, because it is that horror and sickness that makes us face the harsh realities of life and keeps us on our toes.

Well, I didn’t write this and then roll it in sugar because it isn’t candy; it is a jagged little pill that will slice your throat straight open if you swallow too fast, or without water. And believe me, when I say, it is not for children. Best to give fair warning; I wrote this in a manner that it would leave some kind of mark. Hopefully, the mark is a good one. So, sit down with the lights on and enjoy the terror that is Elliot Keller in ‘Passing Through’.
Elliot Keller, AKA Elias Derringer ‘serial killer’
Elliot Keller is pretty much the main horror character of this psychothriller. He is in his mid-thirties, with long, scraggly black hair that seems constantly uncombed and a bit greasy. Sporting a black goatee most of the time to enhance his menacing appearance. He is slender and tall, with piercing dark brown eyes that are almost black. Elliot has lived a life of crime, though only a handful are told in these pages. He is a rapist, a sexual sadist, and though his preferred raped victims are women, he looks especially for a male victim to include in his ‘fun and games.’
For five years in prison, the psychopath has been patiently scheming his escape, and now the time has come. He is highly intelligent and knows how to ‘be where he is at’, meaning, if he is in a situation he cannot control, such as prison, he will act as expected as a means of maintaining control. In addition, he can bluff anyone, and he does it well.
He is heartless, soulless, and has absolutely no conscience to speak of. The only reason he wants to escape is to have a bit of fun once again. He escaped the death penalty on a trumped-up technicality, which shows the level of his intellect and depravity. The perfect psycho for one of my best thriller books of all time.

Best Thriller Books: Dive into Heart-Pounding Suspense!
Donna Welk
This small, plump blonde is about as cute and good-natured as female horror characters come, with a heart of pure gold and an attitude to match. Donna and her husband Rick moved to Virginia after losing a pregnancy and being told she would never have children. In an effort to move on anew, they bought and renovated the cabin resorts on the Appalachian Trailhead in Virginia.
Donna is too innocent and trusting, and her first meeting with Keller shows this. The pain she carries around over her loss has made her tougher than even she knows. While she is a wonderful woman and wife, her experience with this man will prove to be her complete undoing.
Rick Welk
Donna’s husband is of medium height and weight, with short brown hair and hazel eyes. This horror character is from a bigger city, which is never mentioned, but he lacks the easy trust in people that his wife and the other townsfolk have. If his gut senses something is off, he follows it. He feels that he is Donna’s protector and the things that Keller puts him through tear his manhood and ego apart. Though Keller never really puts his actual life in danger, he steals it from him completely.
Sheriff Bob Brown
This rotund, balding man is around sixty, and he has sheriffed the town he loves for more than thirty years. Those who live there are like his children, and he is close to everyone. This horror character’s pride is his wife Rosie, and he beams at the sound of her name. Sheriff Brown is another who is way too trusting, even for a cop, and he has never met the likes of Keller. With no experience, he winds up learning first-hand what the meaning of the word ‘maniac’ really is.

This young red-headed kid is left with Keller for the night, thinking he is simply keeping watch over a man who is down on his luck.
Avery Rush
This pregnant young woman is given the responsibility to take breakfast to the passer-through while staying at the jail. She is stunningly attractive and just as innocent as the rest of the female horror characters.

Captain Russell Johnson
Part of the Virginia State Patrol, Johnson is the cop who contacts Rush about Keller the psychopath. He thinks they have time to get the convict because he is in a cell, but an emergency nine-one-one over the computer from Thompson Trails is cut off, and there is no power or phone service. Now, he and another cop, along with backup, race against time and the weather to get to the town and stop the horror that is already well underway.

Detective Jackson Fowler
This man is a state detective who becomes involved with not much of a real part, but without him, the cops would never get to Thompson Trails.
Rose Brown
Sweet and silver-haired Rosie is a life-long resident of the town, and she is considered the ‘mother’ of all. Her part is simple, as female horror characters go; yet sweet, and she is necessary to the emotional aspect of the novel.

In the real world, there is no place one can go that is truly idyllic, and there is nowhere one can start anew that is genuinely safe. That is what we clearly read about and mentally observe in this realistic fiction and one of the best psychological thriller novels of RWK Clark, ‘Passing Through’.
Set in the fictional town of Thompson Trails, Virginia in modern times. Clark tells the best horror story of a very small town where two newcomers have relocated and set up a cabin resort for Appalachian Hikers.
Townsfolk accepted them right away and loved them like they had been born there. But, this new couple is about to face an experience too terrifying and unforgettable that will ultimately ruin their lives as well as several others in this perfect little piece of heaven.

Little do they all know, a horrible murderer, who has been incarcerated for heinous crimes, has escaped from prison just as northern Virginia is about to get hit with a record blizzard. But the trusting innocence of these small-town people will prove to be their undoing, for they cannot conceive the likes of the stranger they are helping on that snowy night. What he has in store for them was unimaginable, and for the next day and a half, this man terrorizes this town horribly, leaving a permanent scar.
The main reason why I added this novel to the best psychological thriller novels of all time list.
They are all trapped together, with no power, no phones, and no help in sight. But there is a state patrol captain who has been trying to get the news around, even in the horrible storm, that a serial killer is loose, and he just happened to get a split-second heads up that he was spending the night in Thompson Trails. Unfortunately, the town lost all means of communication right after that awareness came.
Now, the roads are all impassible, and there is no way in or out of town, but Elliot Keller, mass murderer, is already up to his fun and games. Everyone who encounters him face to face pays with their life, and the outlook is more than grim, it is deadly. He is a sick man with a sick agenda, dealing with unsuspecting people who never see him coming.

Characters of the book
The main characters of the new horror book include Rick and Donna Welk, a twenty-something couple who has moved to the town to open up the cabin resort and begin a new life after suffering a devastating loss.
Elliot Keller, aka Elias Derringer, is the escaped mass murderer, who was tried and convicted for the murders of three college girls, and a brutal assault on their male companion, who he left for dead, but survived. Keller escapes the death penalty on a trumped-up technicality and patiently plans for more than five years to escape and wreak havoc once again.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Secondary characters who are significant to the new psychological thriller novel, but brief in part, include Sheriff Bob Brown, his wife Rosie, Deputy Darren Rush and his wife Avery, and finally, Captain Russell Johnson and Detective Jackson Fowler of the Virginia State Patrol, both who are racing against the storm and the clock to stop the madman before it’s too late.
This is a very harsh book coming from this particular author.
Though he typically writes psychological thriller books on some level, they are all realistic fiction and very easy to read and digest, and they don’t leave you traumatized. ‘Passing Through’ is the polar opposite. It is graphic realistic fiction, very violent and cold in heart, and it is full of grief. Even the signature twist that Clark provides does little to give hope to readers. For him, it proves to be a big leap in the thriller genre, and fans will likely feel the same way.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
This is the kind of scary stories book that has a couple of lessons, but mostly, it tells a very grim, sad story that could easily happen in real life. He doesn’t go easy on his readers with this one. Some of his fans are going to adore this classic horror book; they are going to love the lengths Clark goes to with both the plot and characters, as well as the harsh realities of his storytelling here.
On the same token, he will have fans who may feel shocked with this realistic fiction. I am personally one of the former, and I think this is one of the best psychological thriller novels I’m glad he went out on this limb.

Suspense thriller fiction book recommendations.
It is not a psychological horror book that children should delve into. As a parent, you should definitely consider the truth that this is adult fiction, perhaps a horror books for teens list. It is horribly real, and it is not to be taken lightly. Otherwise, grown-up horror lovers and serial killers story fans like myself will be impressed; RWK Clark has really done a great job, and he has shown how far he has come as a writer in the pages of this psychothriller.
I would easily recommend ‘Passing Through’ to the right horror fiction audience. If you aren’t afraid to stomach something so harsh, and you are intrigued by the mind and actions of a killer, this is going to be the best horror book for you. If, however, you prefer his lighter works, his off-the-cuff humor, or the fun he has with ‘monsters’, I’d steer clear of this thriller. But I feel sorry for that group, because you are going to be missing out on one of RWK Clark’s best psychological thriller novels yet.
This particular fiction novel was one of the very first I have written. Also, it is the only one I have penned with a focus on alien invasion. I think that the computer hacker premise of the book is good, and the story is fairly spooky overall.
The prologue consists of nothing but random characters in scattered cities. It relates the very first ufo sightings of the invasion of the Oppressors from varying points of view. As far as an introduction goes, it is superficial, but it is effective because of this fact. Once the invasion of alien life becomes confirmed reality. I introduce the main characters of this science fiction novel and tell the story.
This is an alien invasion story that really doesn’t have the obligatory ‘happy ending’; nothing about this situation could possibly end happily for humans, and I wasn’t going to pretend it could. But to me, the invasion itself is not the scariest part of ‘Overtaken’; being tested to determine if you are of enough value to live or die is even more frightening. The pressure of the situation, and the truth that even if you pass the tests, you will go to a foreign planet forever, is a grim thought of abduction to have on one’s shoulders. In the real world, people would commit suicide if faced with the prospect. The main reason why I consider this to be one of my best science fiction novels.
It gets better.
There always has to be a hero or two, even if they ultimately are only saving themselves. The character of Josh Nichols takes readers to Washington, DC, with front row seats. Josh works as a code writer at the Pentagon. He is a young, ambitious man with all of his supposed ducks in a row. Something of a workaholic, Josh has no family or girlfriend in DC; he was born and raised in Iowa, so he’s still fairly green behind the ears.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Kamryn Reynolds is Josh’s polar opposite. With a history of security hacker crimes and street-life, she is a seasoned, semi-tough computer hacker who is always dodging the law. When the invasion takes place, these two meet accidentally, and now the hacking stories begin.
But here’s the kicker.
In an effort to pick up the pace in this supernatural thriller, I gave humankind a deadline, so to speak. Josh and Kamryn must get this all figured out before they are herded away for themselves.
You might be wondering.
What is the testing for? This was the fun part for me, because the concept does spark fear in my heart. So, am I being tested for strengths, or weaknesses? What will be done to me, extermination-wise, if I fail either way? Worse yet, what will happen to me if I ‘pass’? It all consists of question marks which dance gleefully around the unknown, and the unknown is the scariest thing in the world. The second reason why I consider this to be one of my best science fiction novels.
Here’s the deal.
Now, we should probably consider the question: Why choose Josh and Kamryn to try and save the day? Well, dear reader, I think the answer is obvious: It makes for a story that is much more fun and relatable, and because, well… It’s time for a computer hacker hero. But seriously, isn’t it hard to relate to every super-hero character there is? Real life consists of real people, and that’s what these two kids represent. Yet another reason why I consider this to be one of my best science fiction novels.

Want to know the best part?
‘Superior’ is another character I enjoyed playing with. He is the soulless, alien leader of the Oppressors, and his mission is destruction to his gain. He couldn’t care less about these ‘humans’. To him, they are like cockroaches in a deserted house; they must be exterminated before the new tenants can move in. From that perspective, it is his nature to be who he is and do what he is doing to humanity, just as it is our nature to love puppies and kitties and show compassion. The Oppressors are not able to think or feel in the same way.
The president, and all of his high-end, star-spangled advisors, are at a loss. The reason for this is simple: If aliens ufos came, and they had the technology to get here, chances are they have it over on us. It would be a losing battle if indeed we had to fight one. None of the governments computer geniuses from SETI or NASA think like Kamryn or Josh, which forces the president’s hand. I almost wrote these high-ranking officials as ‘bumbling’, because that’s how I saw them in my mind’s eye. They have been so busy thinking they were omnipotent that they never stopped to think about their own mortality. Bumbling, like I said.
What’s the bottom line?
I liked the way all of the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ worked out the way they did. I hope readers have a good time with this grim story, and enjoy one of my best science fiction novels Overtaken. Besides that, I hope that fans get out of the book all I put into it: From the fiction to the fear.

Please add this book to your best science fiction novels list.
This young man is not really considered a computer hacker.Hhe is more of a code writer at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, but he hails from the small town in Iowa. Josh’s parents are alive, but they stayed in the heartland. Josh is literally winging it in life on his own, but he is smart, confident, and driven, so he is unafraid. Josh has no girlfriend, and he is typically too busy in work to hang out with others and have fun. He is dependable, and he is making his parents very proud of him. Though a nerd by nature, Josh is in good shape, and he is very attractive, with longish dark brown hair that he wears a bit feathered; his eyes are brown as well.
Kamryn Reynolds
Kamryn is a petite girl with blonde hair and green eyes. She is highly intelligent but has absolutely no upbringing as far as moral responsibility is concerned. She is a professional computer hacker and is mostly concerned with staying under the cops’ radar and maintaining her freedom. When the invasion happens, Kamryn takes off, and this is when she meets Josh Nichols.
She is quick and attentive to detail, making her the primary candidate for helping bring down the Oppressors. Kamryn falls for Josh just as easily as he does for her, and they must consummate their love in some strange places. These chain of events ad some romantic suspense to the novel. Fortunately, Kamryn’s inhibitions don’t really exist. This makes this one of the best science fiction novels.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
President Andrew Mason
President Mason is a man in his mid-forties who is responsible for the greatest country on Earth, but he is in no way ready to deal with the Oppressors when they arrive. He is handsome, with sandy-brown hair and dark light blue eyes. He is always surrounded by advisors and the like, but he is scared to death with the situation at hand, and it shows in the sketchiness he demonstrates.
Mason is the kind of man who is quick to turn to those around him for answers while maintaining a façade of full control. He is the first character to demonstrate the desperate state of man; Mason knows the end is near, and he begins to think about his family, and his love for them. Even in his weakness, Mason possesses a level of wisdom, and he gravitates toward Josh just a bit, sort of in a mentoring fashion.
Superior
Superior is the leader of the Oppressors and leading occupant of the mothership, which is under his command. He has a couple of underlings: Secondary, who is his ‘right-hand alien’, and Subordinate, who is basically a lackey for secondary. Even these ever-present companions to the old general are scared to death of him, and it shows.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
He is the sort of individual who will kill you just as soon as look at you, and he is also the sort to lie to his own people to fulfill his own desires and cravings. It is directly by his extraterrestrial life that the Oppressors spend centuries at war, and this comes out as the story progresses. He would like people to believe he is full of mercy and compassion, but he has ulterior motives for every seemingly merciful move he makes.
Tall, with large hands and common receding hairline, Superior and all of his people look very much like human beings, with most of the major differences being in size and proportion. The name ‘Superior’, as well as the names of other Oppressors, are simply the closest thing to human pronunciation they can come up with; the alien language is unpronounceable with human lips.
Sharon, the Secretary
She is the secretary in the Pentagon and makes several small appearances in the pages of this book. She is a sharp-dressing blonde bombshell who is constantly fetching coffee or other needed items. With a penchant for bright red lipstick, she seems to catch every male eye, but Sharon keeps to herself and does her job well. Another reason why this is one of the best science fiction novels.
Huck Brown, June Ellison, and Jake Hartwell
These three characters are rooting in the prologue, and the arrival of three Oppressor spaceships is told from their perspectives of the ufo sightings. Huck is a filling station employee whose mean-spirited head is mostly full of rocks. June Ellison is an insurance company employee in Mesa who pretty much cracks up at the sight of an extraterrestrial ship. Jake Hartwell is a doctor in Baltimore who is on his way to his son’s school to deal with the fact that the kid has stolen his gun when he first spies the flying saucer. Each of them could be anyone, and each of them is simply going about their day-to-day lives when the Oppressors arrive.

Put this supernatural thriller on your best science fiction novels list.
When it comes to war, there are never any winners. In R.W.K. Clark’s alien encounters science fiction novel, ‘Overtaken Captive States’, this point is made crystal clear. To what extremes would you expect your government to take in an alien invasion to ensure the safety of its people?
This one of the best suspense books is primarily set at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. It is there that readers get the ‘inside scoop’ regarding the invasion of the Oppressors and the reaction of the US government. It is also here that one of the main characters, a code writer, works as a computer genius, at least to some level; he is a shoo-in when the powers that be seek someone to formulate a plan of defense. There is a single mothership hovering over Washington, but there are several other ships that are hovering over cities as well, but the only time we really visit these areas of action is in the prologue.
The Oppressors fully intend to take over Earth, and they will do this solely for the rich resources it has to offer. Making this one of the best suspense books by R.W.K. Clark.

Here’s the deal.
The answer is frightening: Humans are to be ‘herded’ in preset groups to testing facilities erected by the Oppressors. No preferences are made for families; each man is for himself. These facts contribute to the creepiness of this novel. None of us want to be alone when we die; we don’t even want to live if we have no one to love and live with. It is the little sprinklings like this that add to the surreal quality of this one of the best suspense books.

This is where Josh really comes in. With a new friend and professional hacker, Kamryn Reynolds, Josh begins to search for a way to breach the mothership’s computer and render the ship defenseless by collapsing its shield. The problem is, they are scheduled to be herded, just like everyone else, and the computer on the ship is like nothing he or Kamryn has ever dealt with. The odds they are facing are astronomical. It gets better.
The main characters of this one of the best suspense thriller books include code writer, Josh Nichols, and pro hacker, Kamryn Reynolds. The president, Andrew Mason, and the alien leader, ‘Superior’, are also prime players. Other than that, there is a handful of supporting characters, consisting of government advisors and alien underlings.
There are not so many characters that this book is hard to keep up with, and each existing one has a unique personality unto themselves. This especially applies to Superior; he is evil, but not because he has chosen it. It is in his nature, and even though he is ruthless, this is something that can’t be ignored. Big players include the vice-president Henry Whitaker, Miles James, the head of Homeland Security, Carson Wood, the Secretary of Defense, and finally Peter Wells, the head of Josh’s unit at the Pentagon.

You might be wondering.
This is not an exceptionally graphic or bloody science fiction story, and Clark even adds some romantic suspense between Josh and Kamryn which makes the story of this one of the best suspense books to move along nicely. From their perspective, readers are able to consider what love would be like in the last days and weeks of existence. Would you be able to function and go on knowing the chances of death were great? Not only that but how would it feel to face such a situation with a romantic relationship going on? Questions like these assist this one of the best suspense in catering to a diverse audience.
But here’s the kicker.
It is important to note that, from the beginning, I picked up on a certain tone in the novel. While specific survivors may cause readers to cheer, the point is not the survival; in this situation are the survivors really winning at all? That is the question to ask at this time.

What’s the bottom line?
While readers consider all of these points, they will still discover that they have hope: Hope that the humans will find a magical solution. Add this alien encounters novel to your best suspense books list.
I consider ‘Out to Sea’ to be one of my best romance thriller books to read. ‘Out to Sea’ was a project that I had to walk a fine line with. I intended for it to be a work with a very pertinent message, while forming a bond between star-crossed teen lovers. With the state of the future world in shambles, it was somewhat difficult to know when and where romance was truly appropriate; after all, the planet is dying before the eyes of the main characters, and they are literally watching everyone basically celebrate it. It’s the sort of thing that can ruin the mood.
The basic plot of the book revolves around a chemical spill. The fact of the matter is that the end will come at a direct result of this, and most everyone is painfully aware that the future is dark and grim.
Here’s the deal.
There are those, however, who have found a way to exploit the situation. The spill has made the appearance of the water indescribably gorgeous, even entrancing, to a certain level. People purchase atrociously priced luxury cruises on the best cruise ships for the sole purpose of gawking at the lifeless seas, and they seem to have no care for what the façade of beauty they are looking at really means.
It is truly a horrible thing, and I wanted the level of depravity and complacency to which human beings stoop to be stark and ugly. The main reason this is one of my best romance thriller books to read.
It gets better.
Tripp Young is my main character on this ocean voyage. As the only son of wealthy parents, he is expected to go on these yearly excursions with them. They are two of the countless who have bought into the horrible exploitation of the planet’s impending death, and they seem blind to the reality of it all. To them, and all others like them, it is an amusement park ride, of sorts.
But Tripp is neither ignorant or calloused to what is taking place. In this fiction book he looks at his existence in two categories: Before the Spill, and After the Spill, and the planets in both are very different places indeed. For a seventeen-year-old nature lover, he is very in touch with logic and sense, as well as the brokenhearted emotion he nurses for the world that was once lush with grass and other plant life; a world where you could jump in a river and swim. Tripp had to be angry, but I also knew it had to be a righteous, self-controlled anger; an anger with a purpose.

Want to know the best part?
While on this cruise, Tripp meets Heidi Collins, and is instantly smitten with the smart, petite environmentally conscious redhead. Never having a real girlfriend before, he easily becomes consumed with spending as much time together while on this ocean voyage as they possibly can, and her feelings are the same. Together, they witness some pretty horrific things, which can all be attributed to the tainted sea that surrounds them.
It pulls them closer and closer as the days pass. Another reason this is one of my best romance thriller books to read.
But here’s the kicker.
One such scene involves a child who goes missing during the cruise. The ship still refuses to stop because the show must go on. I wanted to add a level of greed and corporate fiction to the novel. This is only one tragedy that takes place aboard the ship. It was important to convey the state of mind of those who enjoyed what the spill had done; depraved indifference and selfishness filled their souls.
I contemplated the accomplishment, though it may have seemed overly dramatic in manner, at times. Yet another reason why this is one of my best romance thriller books to read.

You might be wondering.
As for Tripp and Heidi’s love, I wanted their interactions to be intensely emotional and painful, so they could be tangible to the person with the book.
What’s the bottom line?
To put it simply, ‘Out to Sea’ is an environmentally conscious romantic suspense that tells a story, and it teaches a lesson. It may not feel good, but lessons rarely do. I think by the end of this book, whether the reader loves it or hates it, they will never forget it. I wrote it to be the kind of story that sticks, even if it isn’t popular for the particular content or level of fiction. With that being said, this is one of my personal favorites as a writer, and it had an impact on me that my other works haven’t.
It may be a speculative fiction novel, but the pain and despair I put in the pages was anything but a fairy tale; I’m confident the emotion will help get the message across loud and clear. I hope you enjoy this romance thriller, and new addition to my young adult thriller books.

Best Romance Thriller Book Out to Sea Character Profile
Tripp Young
Tripp is the main character, and the story is told in the first-person, so the entire narrative is from his perspective, and the words are driven by his emotion. For being only seventeen, Tripp is wise beyond his years; he is smart, and is a deep thinker by nature.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
He has a very set outlook on environmental pollution and total devastation of the planet’s waters, but he is even more appalled by the attitudes of those around him on the ship; their lack of concern and blasé attitudes about the ecosystem cause him to feel embarrassed for his species. These family cruises treat the water as if it is some kind of work of art.
Tripp, a city boy from Chicago, is tall and slender, with hazel eyes and light brown hair, which he wears a bit long. Not really the athletic type, he prefers knowledge over sports, which has hindered him from dating many girls. He is also polite, considerate, and a bit shy with the opposite sex, which hasn’t helped either.
Tripp comes on the cruise vacations to appease his parents, which he did each year, but the state of the sea and complacency of other passengers has made him determine he will not come again.
Heidi Collins
This cute, intelligent redhead caught Tripp’s eye effortlessly, and soon after, stole his heart. Heidi has the same environmental awareness mindset and emotions regarding the polluted waters as Tripp, which makes it easy for a friendship to form and attraction to grow. Her parents are on the cruise for a different reason than most: Her father is an environmentalist and the lead scientist, and he is a member of the epa team studying to find a way to fix the irreversible mess that is all around them.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
Being on the side of the ‘good guys’ makes Heidi even more appealing to Tripp, and she is teaching him, more environmentalism ideologies every day, the truth about the water, exposing lies that have made the cruises into a money-making machine for the cruise lines. Her feelings for Tripp match his own for her, and together they swear to find each other after they dock, no matter what, and be together until the planet inevitably dies.
Heidi lives in Miami Beach, which is a fair distance from Tripp’s hometown, but they promise that the distance will never change their love, or stop their future. This also makes one of the best romance thriller books to read.
Drake Nelson
Drake is about Tripp’s age, and hails from Michigan. He is a bigger boy, and puts out an air of ‘dumbness’, but this is for the benefit of his best friend, Mike, who does tend to have a harder time keeping up; he doesn’t want the kid to feel left behind, so to speak.
Drake is yet another victim of sick parental preoccupation with the tainted waters, and while he hates these last minute cruises, he is not a conservationist and isn’t as passionate as Tripp or Heidi, because he hasn’t yet grasped the full impact of the reality of the climate change situation. When he is finally faced with the truth that the world is really dying, his emotions get the best of him. He is a kindhearted young man who is simply not mature enough to deal with the future they are all facing.
Mike Harold
Drake’s best friend is also from Michigan, and the two are as close as brothers. He is not too bright, and though he understands the pollution is bad news, he is unable to grasp the depth of how bad the environmental problems are. Therefore, he doesn’t contribute much when it comes to the others’ conversations about environmental issues or cruising in general.

Jim & Kate Young
Tripp’s parents attend the cruises to enjoy the colored water, and are nearly obsessed with it, but they also go to support a company who is lying to the entire world through its teeth about the water pollution. They believe their presence make the publicity and falsehoods more acceptable, and they, in fact, are wearing rose-colored glasses, choosing to believe the foolishness themselves.
Tripp’s lectures and warnings have no influence; both Jim and Kate seem almost hypnotized, they are so detached, and for the majority of the book are like senseless sheep being willingly led to the slaughter.
Raymond & Helen Goodwin
This elderly couple is only on the cruise vacation because they saved up for years, and coming to the end of their lives, choose not to waste their cruise travel dream. They despise what is happening, and in their wisdom, they clearly understand what the pollution really means for the inhabitants of Earth.
The Goodwins are only in two shorts scenes, both of them consisting of conversations with Tripp and Heidi. What they offer to our lovebirds is priceless, and it is nothing less than the painful, ugly truth. They make a deep impact on the kids, influencing their perspective, forcing them to be honest with themselves, and then encouraging them to live and love as much as they can.

While brief, their contribution to the story is essential to who Tripp is, and how he looks at the destruction of the world he calls home.
YA Fiction Books Out To Sea Festival Of Hues One Of My Best Romance Thriller Books To Read.
Out to Sea by R.W.K. Clark takes place a few years in the future, and is set on a cruise ship which is traveling on ocean waters which have been poisoned entirely by a massive chemical spill.
The result turned the water into some kind of breathtaking killer sideshow, which the cruise line willingly provides. Slowly, the entire planet is dying, but there are those who are wealthy and calloused, only taking these regular cruises to gaze at the beautiful, but deadly, liquid that is keeping them afloat.
There is even a famous fireworks event on board which is used for the sole purpose of exploiting the hopeless situation even more, termed the Festival of Hues. The main reason this is one of the best science fiction books.

Four friends soon find out what it really means to live in a world on the verge of extinction. This is a environmental awareness novel with a bit of a romantic suspense blended in to make it interesting. The main characters include Tripp Young, a seventeen-year-old boy whose parents are included amongst those who use the sea for personal amusement, and he despises it.
His parents are Jim and Kate Young, who also happen to work for the company responsible for the spill; the same company who markets the waters for their appearance and covers up the truth about the danger. Another reason why ‘Out to Sea‘ is one of the best science fiction books.

It gets better.
Heidi Collins is Tripp’s first-time love interest. The cute redhead feels the same loathing for the cruise ship and its indifferent, superficial passengers, but her parents hate it as well. This is a family with strong environmentalism ideologies. Heidi’s father is an environmentalist and the lead scientist who is on the main team working tirelessly to find a solution; the cruise is work for him.
His position has been a benefit to Heidi knowing more of the truth than most teenagers want to. This makes it one the best science fiction books.

Drake Nelson and Mike Harold are a couple of boys Tripp meets on the cruise, and a fast friendship forms; it is maintained even after Heidi joins the group. The boys are best friends from Michigan, and are as close as brothers. Drake’s parents also come to ‘gawk’ at the water, and they drag him along, but they allowed him to bring his friend so he wouldn’t be lethargic during the trip. Drake is smarter than he puts on, but he is also emotional. Mike is a quiet kid, who basically watches from the sidelines.
But here’s the kicker.
During the cruise, Tripp and Heidi also meet a retired couple named Raymond and Helen Goodwin. These wise old souls maintain brutal honesty about what is to come while teaching Tripp and Heidi how important it is to enjoy every second while you can. The short-lived relationship formed between these four takes place over only two conversations, but is eternally impactful on Tripp. This is another reason why I like this one of the best science fiction books.

What’s the bottom line?
Basically, this book demonstrates the extreme to which indifference and complacency can go to, and it painfully accentuates the ripple effect of gross negligence and greed. It clearly shows how lives are irreparably damaged, and even stolen, through the indirect actions of others, as well as the depth of evil that can live in the human heart.

‘Lucifer’s Angel’ is a book which tells the tale of a young girl raised in a very religious home, who experiences a year of terrible loss. The result of these painful occurrences is loss of the faith she has had her entire life, and in an effort to find a ‘god’ she can trust, the young teen turns to witchcraft. Unfortunately, she has no idea what she is getting herself into, and the consequences of her choice to revert are devastating.
Lucifer’s Angel: A Battle of Light and Shadow!
Sarah Hathaway is your average teenager. She has lived in the fictional town of Paradise, her entire life, the only child of her parents, and their pride and joy. She has a very normal, happy life: Sarah has her best friend, Michelle, and her beloved border collie, Mitzi. She also has an uncommonly close relationship with her grandmother, church pianist Emma Holt. Everything in her life is perfect, and she is completely unprepared for the series of tragedies that take place.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
For me, the best thing about writing ‘Lucifer’s Angel’ was the freedom I had to add as many twists and surprises as I saw fit. This is an unpredictable book, and I like it that way. Even to the very last pages, when you finally think you have what is happening to Sarah figured out, I switch it up. But what I have to say is that the nature of this book is the perfect breeding ground for such surprise, and without it, this would not have come anywhere near making the point I intended it to make.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
So, then, what is the point? Well, I could say there are a few, in fact. First, it is safe to say that we should never dabble in something we know nothing about. Hidden dangers lurk around every last corner in this world, and matters of spirituality are no exception. Whether you are a religious person or not, this is a fact, and Sarah learns this in a terrifying and painful way. Unfortunately for her, this lesson comes late.
Secondly, pain is a part of life. All of us go through doubt about our own beliefs and abilities. Sarah’s doubt happens to run so deep, and her heart is so broken, that she makes the choice to turn to witchcraft almost strictly out of a sense of revenge toward God. ‘If you won’t give me my way, I’ll find someone who will,’ is essentially her thought process. Of course she is hurting, but we all do, and no one is exempt. When we turn our back on our own knowledge and beliefs because we are pouting over the facts of life, we sort of get what we deserve in the end. No amount of revenge or fit throwing will change the fact that bad things happen every single day.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
I also try to convey the fact that it is terribly dangerous to give others too much trust. There are those in life that hold positions that should be trustworthy… pastors, parents, teachers, and the like. But we all know too well that everyone is human, and human beings are selfish by nature, not to mention capable of horrible things, no matter what their title or position is. This is especially true if there is something valuable to gain. Yes, once again I have added surprises. Yes, I have twisted things in all the right places. But as I said above, this type of thing would be the nature of the black arts anyway; don’t be surprised. The only thing I will admit to here is that I wish things could have gone differently for Sarah in her life; she is a likeable young lady who has promise. Unfortunately, her anger and decisions are her own worst enemy, and ultimately and sadly, this plays out in her life for you to read.
–↓–“A word from our sponsor”–↓– –↑–“Ads made this possible”–↑–
I hope you enjoy reading ‘Lucifer’s Angel’, both for the joy of reading and for the points I have tried to make. It is a creative effort that consists of grief, horror, a bit of romance, and desperation. I have written about witchcraft before, but this story should drive things home and make them a bit more real.
