Classic Series - Art

The works in this series display serene depictions of calm and introspective images. The models are enveloped with their setting and embrace it as if part of their very essence. The images mostly display muted colors and cast the feeling of viewing portraiture from the 1800ís. A few color images are added to the series as a contrast. The color provides a bolder version in which the viewer is keenly aware they are looking at a photograph. While the colors and image are bold, the model herself is still serenely entwined with her natural surrounding which creates a calm feeling within the viewer. The models appear lost in quiet contemplative thought and appear quite delicate. Simple sunlight nude or half nude outdoors are generally cast against a plain background and black and white colors to affirm the simplicity of the classical image that is as a result of this main characteristic timeless in its visual appeal and thematic importance. The shadows cast on the female body vary as the models are seen in variety of positions. The natural features of the setting and the models are played upon through the interplay between black and white imagery and colors between the different work in this series. Body shadows and the classic lines of the female body are not absorbed but highlighted with tones from the background from natural shapes such as rocks, trees and other scenic elements. These elements are not large enough to distract the viewer but not invisible and minor to not allow the body to play off them. Thus the female classic figure is empowered to make other shapes with the body which not only shows the physical tenseness of the setting she is in but also reflects on the shape of whatever natural element she is nearby, whether trees, waster, rocks, or bare abandoned buildings. ©Robert WK Clark
